![]() I've probably mentioned before my son is obsessed with dinosaurs?? Anyway, i designed this poster for his bedroom, we recently went to an exhibition at the museum about dinosaurs, after making our way through the exhibition we you come to end, yes, they have a gift shop!....and yes you guessed it, they had everything dinosaurs in this shop, clothes, toys, books, pens, pencils and it go's on and on and on...(i think the kids were more excited about the shop than the exhibition!!!) Oh well, i guess the profits go the museum which is great thing, but when leaving they had these great movie posters from the 40's, 50's (??) framed and on display.. My wife suggested that we should" get something like that for Ed's room" and i suggested, "i could design my own!".. So this is the final product (i have used this dino drawing before on a poster but i like it, and it saved me having to do another!!) So i gather this kinda low budget film would go 'straight to DVD' (especially if it advertises 'never before seen special effects... yeah right Enjoy....

![]() This is my new years day 'now showing' release.. 'The Kids are Playing Up Downstairs', this is a documentary (or as i would say...documadry) i would love to see.. Ive always liked Madness since my high school days, i remember 'going off' at the school discos to Baggy Trousers and then once i acquired 'Complete Madness' on tape (old school) i was a fan for life. The idea for this imaginary documentary came about from a lyric from one of Madness' most popular songs 'Our House'.. Im not really a fan of this song, but the lyric 'the kids are playing up downstairs' i think is brilliant and has always stuck with me.. Happy New Year all, more 'now showing' movie posters i will do in 2014...any suggestions, comments or criticisms i welcome.. Enjoy... ![]() The idea of this movie came from my 5 yr old son Ed. He is obsessed with Jurassic Park, Dinosaurs, Archaeology and Ninjas...(of course). So while he was digging away at his archaeology set he questioned "were ninjas around when archaeologists were digging for dinosaurs?" Then we came up with the idea that archaeologists were digging for dinosaurs, discovered ninja DNA when they extracted blood from a mossie when an archaeologist was accidentally injected with the blood and discovered he had the skills and powers of a NINJA...yeah! So while Ed was playing around being an archaeologist ninja, i started thinking of what a great movie poster this would be...maybe even a movie, comic strip or cartoon...(note to self, pitch the idea to someone?!?!?) This is my poster design...enjoy...hai ya!! ![]() Now Showing.. RobotMan, i have been tinkering with a type for this super hero for a while, it kinda just entered my head one day and wha la! RobotMan was born. Although i have never heard of a character named Robot Man, apparently there was one created years ago who appeared with a super hero gang named Doom Patrol (they fought along side Batman???), this is his bio; Robotman is one of the founding members of the Doom Patrol along with Negative Man and Elasti-Girl. He is unique in that he is the only character to appear in every version of the Doom Patrol.[1] Cliff Steele became Robotman after a race car accident destroyed his body (a retcon had the accident intentionally caused by Niles Caulder). Caulder subsequently placed Cliff's intact brain into a robotic body. After the operation, Cliff suffered from frequent depression because he viewed himself as less than human. A background serial in Doom Patrol #s 100, 101, 103 & 105 (December 1965 – August 1966) indicated that Caulder made a mistake in the operation that caused Steele to go on a rampage, which was corrected when he was recruited for the Patrol. (These are incompatible with Cliff's flashback in My Greatest Adventure #80) info from Wikipedia Wonder what Negative Man powers were???? (i may know him!!!) anyway, i designed this movie like poster and had an idea of designing movie posters that never were (or may be were?) and have them printed an framed. and display them on a website named 'Now Showing' The poster design was created by me (except for the image of RobotMan), i created the type for 'Robot' as well as 'the RM' logo Here is my very first blog post...
My name is Murray Alford, i'm a traditional brush signwriter for nearly 30 years and have just finished my Cert IV in graphic design. I specialise in type design and calligraphy, i'm inspired by traditional style type design with a emphasis on hand drawn type and text. I love the classic hand drawn script with scrolls and flourishes, also i do a lot of chalk work and love working with chalk.. I have recently discovered the beautiful artwork and type design used on 'Book Plates'...these are fantastic little artworks in their own right.. Anyway, if you require any type work for any reason, please feel free to contact me and we can discuss your need...maybe you need some original type for a tattoo?? Hopefully i can write some regular posts...i will share my latest inspirations, artworks, exhibitions and general thoughts on all thi |
